Cloud Computing has become the buzzword among the IT geeks nowadays. The intent of this post is to give a brief description of Cloud Computing.

Generally the word "Cloud" is a metaphor for Internet. So, in simple terms Cloud Computing means computing over the internet. This is being practiced from quite a long time but there was no proper representation for it. The word "Computing" in IT world has a wide and diverse definitions which usually varies based on the context. Wikipedia has given a very short and sweet definition of computing viz.. "Computing is usually defined as the activity of using and improving computer hardware and software." Having known this we are all set to start understanding about Cloud Computing and its Jargons.

Cloud Computing is the way of performing computing over cloud(internet) with very little or no dependency on your local resources.

Cloud Computing can be best understood by knowing the type of services it provides.

  1. PaaS (Platform As A Service).

  2. SaaS (Software As A Service).

  3. IaaS (Infrastructure As A Service).

If we observe the type of services that cloud computing is providing, we realize that platform, software and infrastructure are the sufficient resources for performing any sort of computing, and that is being provided on cloud.
